The Grigori or "Watchers" were angels sent by God to shepherd humanity. They're duty included a lot of instruction -- crafts, the making of tools, other necessities of survival. Being from Heaven, they were not prepared for the carnal nature of human beings and were sexually seduced by them.
The result of these unions were the Nephalim - giant men of great beauty and mighty strength. When they started failing to show up for their Heavenly duties, God apparently started watching the Watchers, and when their children built the tower of babel, He got pissed off. Babel was nuked and many of the Nephalim were slaughtered. Only a few would remain, and when David slew Goliath, he slew the last of these primeval giants. The Watchers are divided into two camps - the good guys and the bad guys. The good guys who were apparently able to keep their penis' in their robes included the Archangel Michael. The bad ones included Azazel, pictured here. Azazel was expelled from Heaven. Like the other dark Watchers, he went on to teach mankind arcane knowledge to further corrupt the species away from God. Azazel's specialty was witchcraft. In particular, he taught man the power to cause the sun, moon and stars to descend from the sky, to make them closer objects of worship. In this scene, Azazel, fresh from a sexual liaison with your neighbor, stands on the sidewalk on a foggy night, listening to the clarion calling him to duty. He gathers his weapons and a loin-covering made from the skin of the long-dead Nephalim. On his brow, a winged scarab of gold and sapphire, a gift from his lover Cleopatra before her doomed affair with Marc Antony. In his navel, a ruby ornament with a red teardrop symbolizes his fall from grace. His beauty is marred only by the small black horns which crowns his pale golden head. His golden wings still shimmer in the streetlights, making him feel more like the angel he once was, for in the morning sun, they will turn black until the sun sets in the west. His terrible sword is sheathed until he feels the compulsion to take it out and use it once again. The tiny blue gems in the scabbard are angelic souls vanquished by the swords wicked edge. The wings come from Clandestine Stock - click the [link] to check out her groovy gallery. |

Never knock on Death's door; ring the doorbell and run (he hates that)
...
...So if those are the souls of vanquished angels, does that mean they can be rescued at some point by someone even more badass than Azazel?
